Lane change sends motorcyclist to hospital with injuries

FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police and Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel were dispatched to the 1800 block of Main Street Sunday, July 5th, about 5pm due to a report of a motorcycle versus car collision.

Ferndale Police report arriving on the scene and finding the motorcycle rider lying in the middle of road.

Ferndale Police determined both vehicles, a 2005 Yamaha Road Star and a 2017 Toyota Corolla, had been eastbound on Main Street when the Toyota moved from the right to the left lane. The maneuver resulted in the Toyota striking the motorcycle’s rear tire, causing the rider to swerve to the left and fall off the motorcycle after colliding with a concrete curb lane divider.

WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said aid crews determined the rider had non-life-threatening injuries and transported them to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center.
