The 28th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, scheduled for May 9th this year, has been postponed according to organizers. Social distancing requirements and concern for the safety of those involved in the food drive were cited as the reasons for postponing the event.

Every second Saturday in May, carriers across the US collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. This is reported to be the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

Everything collected in the Ferndale area during past drives has been delivered to the Ferndale Food Bank where it is made available to local families in need.

National Association of Letter Carriers officials say they and their partners “are fully committed to rescheduling the food drive later in 2020” but a new date has not yet been announced.

Millions of Americans donate food on the second Saturday in May every year to help fight hunger in their communities. While we may not be able to safely conduct the food drive on its traditional date, we encourage those that would participate to consider donations that may be safely made to food banks in the form of food or financial assistance.  Letter carriers, our national partners, community supporters and volunteers will be prepared to Stamp Out Hunger® once again when it is safe to do so.
