wa license plate and tabsFor many years, Ferndale Cost Cutter Licensing has provided Ferndale with a local resource for vehicle title and tab transactions. It was a rare occasion not to encounter a line of people. But, with the expected closing of the Ferndale Cost Cutter Store that houses the licensing office, Whatcom County has put out the call for business proposals for a licensing subagent in Ferndale to replace it.

Interest has already been expressed by the folks who have been running Northwest Licensing at 2502 Cedarwood Ave in Bellingham for the past 16 years. According to a Facebook post, “Since the closing of Cost Cutter will leave a big void in the licensing world we thought it might be the right time [for us] to add an office in Ferndale to fill that void.”

City staff would also like to see a replacement subagency spring up in Ferndale since the Cost Cutter was the City’s second biggest sales tax generator. According to Mayor Gary Jensen, “We don’t want to lose that and it would further hurt our citizens to have to drive farther for this service. ”
