Ferndale Police officers and aid units were dispatched to a report of a physical domestic assault incident at the Ferndale Square Apartments, 2254 Main Street, just after midnight Sunday morning. Upon arriving, officers found a female in need of aid. The suspected assailant had reportedly left the area.

Ferndale Police officers soon after located and arrested the suspect, Kane Michael Reimer, age 23, and booked him into the Whatcom County Jail on the charges of 2nd degree assault and unlawful imprisonment.

According to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman, “Reimer choked and restricted (his) girlfriend’s airway, as well as punched her in the face. Additionally, Reimer refused to let go of (his) girlfriend when she asked.”

According to court documents, the court set bail at $25,000 which Reimer posted leading to his release from custody pending trial. Terms of his release include not contacting his girlfriend and not possessing firearms or any other weapons. A domestic violence no-contact order was also issued prohibiting Reimer from coming within 500 feet of his girlfriend.
