Oregon State Police (OSP) report being dispatched on August 22, at 11:50am to Highway 101 near milepost 112 and the intersection of NE Devils Lake Road near Lincoln City for a two-vehicle serious injury crash.
OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a 78-year-old California man was southbound on US Highway 101 in a gold Nissan LL while Dalton Olson, age 23 and from Ferndale, was in a black Hyundai stopped in the left turn lane. The Nissan veered into the left turn lane and struck the Hyundai from behind.
Olson and his passenger, Danielle Steele, age 22 and from Blaine, both sustained critical injures. Olson was ground transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and later air transported to Emanuel Hospital. Steele was also transported to Emanuel Hospital. Olson died days later from his injuries on August 26th according to OSP.
The other driver and his passenger were also transported to Emanuel Hospital with unknown injuries.
