LTTE: Concerned “buy local” mandate will be too expensive

Published April 15, 2020

This Letter to the Editor is in response to this story.

This hard and fast rule would cause a lot of unbalance in the budget. City purchasing agents would have to buy at local prices when the cost of products in Bellingham and on the internet are considerably better. I recently found a garden gate latch at a hardware store in B’ham at $4.99. Price for the same quality and size at a Ferndale garden store was $14.99. I can give a little for local pricing but not more than double. Shop locally when prices are comparable. Will the water department be required to buy 24-inch pipe and valves locally when the market price from Seattle is much less?
