FERNDALE, Wash. — The Lummi Island vehicle and passenger ferry, Whatcom Chief, will be taken out of service in September so that it can under go annual maintenance in dry dock.
According to a press release from the Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division, the Whatcom Chief’s will depart for dry dock on Saturday, September 7th, after completing the 9:20am run from Lummi Island to Gooseberry Point and the 9:30am run from Gooseberry Point to Lummi Island.
The Whatcom Chief will be replaced by a passenger-only ferry. It’s first departure from Lummi Island on Saturday, September 7th, is 4pm. Passenger shuttle van service to and from the ferry terminal will be provided on Lummi Island while the Whatcom Chief Ferry is in dry dock.
The Whatcom Chief is expected to return to service Tuesday, September 24th. This date is tentative and dependent upon the extent of work needed while in dry dock.
