UPDATED: Lummi Island passenger ferry service suspended due to winds

FERNDALE, Wash. — Officials with the Ferry Division of Whatcom County Public Works announced about 12:45pm today, September 17th, that they had suspended service of the passenger-only ferry between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island.

Wind gusts of up to 40mph from the southeast had been reported in the area of the crossing today.

The vehicle ferry, Whatcom Chief, is currently in dry dock for its annual maintenance and has been replaced during that time with a passenger-only ferry.

Ferry Division officials say they will review the status of the service suspension about 2pm.

UPDATE 2:10pm
Officials announced they will be continuing the service suspension and will review again about 3pm.

UPDATE 2:30pm
Officials announced they had resumed ferry service.
