Mountain Rains Bring Risk of Flooding

When Flooded Turn Around road signThe National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Flood Warning for the Nooksack River but mostly for upstream from Ferndale in areas like North Cedarville and Lynden. There remains a Flood Watch for the Lower Nooksack which is forecast to exceed 19′ (minor flooding expected) at Ferndale Friday around midnight and crest Saturday morning around 19.5′.

Typically such events see the river quickly recede below flood stage after cresting but the forecast for this event is to maintain a level higher than 19′ until Sunday afternoon.

It is possible that Slater Road and other frequently flooded roads will be closed at some time during the weekend. Discover Ferndale will provide road closure information for the Ferndale area if they occur.
