First responders were dispatched to the area of Smith Road and the Guide Meridian about 10:40pm last night, July 23rd, due to a report of a car versus pedestrian collision.
According to Washington State Patrol Trooper A Reese, What-Comm 911 dispatchers had received calls reporting a pedestrian in traffic on the Guide shortly before the collision was reported.
WSP Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.
As of the publication of this story, the pedestrian’s identity was being withheld pending next of kin notification. WSP identified the pedestrian as Alyssa N Greene, age 32, from Bellingham.
The car was a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 23-year-old Ferndale woman. She and her passenger were not injured according to a WSP press memo.
WSP reported the pedestrian was in lane 1 of the northbound lanes at Smith Road and the Chevrolet was northbound when the pedestrian was struck.
Northbound lanes of the Guide Meridian were closed for several hours following the collision.
No charges are expected against the driver who showed no signs of impairment. Trooper Reese said investigators are trying to determine why the pedestrian was in the roadway.
