NEARBY: Grassfire caused a plume of smoke to the north

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and firefighters from North Whatcom Fire & Rescue were initially dispatched to a smoke investigation about 3:40pm today, but discovered what was described via radio by a deputy on the scene as a 1-acre grassfire involving a couple buildings.

The fire is located in the 8500 block Stein Road, north of Loomis Trail Road.

Resources from Whatcom County Fire District 7 (Ferndale) and 17 (Sandy Point) were called in to assist with fighting the fire.

Fire officials reported they were going to be there for some time and deputies at the scene say Stein Road would be closed for the duration between Loomis Trail Road and Dawn Lane.
