Neighbor discovers garage full of smoke

A neighbor on 1800 block of Newkirk Road had been watching the Seahawk’s smoking performance today but just before half-time realized there was more smoke than they were comfortable with.

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, the occupant smelled smoke and began investigating. When they opened an interior door to the garage, they discovered it was full of smoke.

When firefighters arrived, they found the occupants outside and smoke coming from the residence.

The electrical breaker panel in the garage was the initial point of interest as a cause was being investigated.

Boyko credited the occupants for having closed the interior doors within the house before firefighters arrived.
