New Winter Weather Advisory in place until Saturday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office issued a new Winter Weather Advisory just for western Whatcom County. It is in effect until 4am tomorrow (Saturday) and forecasts 1 to 3 inches of snow with isolated accumulations of 4 inches possible. The advisory emphasized particularly affected areas would be in the north County, including Ferndale, Lynden and Sumas.

An earlier NWS Winter Weather Advisory expired at noon as temperatures south of Whatcom County warmed up above freezing. But Whatcom County, including the Ferndale area, continued to see snowfall.

Temperatures around the Ferndale area are in the upper 20s to lower 30s and have held relatively constant between 11am and 1:45pm, the time of this story. Winds have increased slightly but continue to come from the north-northeast (Fraser Valley outflow).

Law enforcement and tow trucks continue to be swamped as they have been responding to one crash after another since the morning commute. Lummi Shore Road is currently closed from Scott Road to Cagey Road due to a previous multi-vehicle crash. According to Lummi Communications, the road will reopen after County Public Works has been able to plow and sand it.
