Overnight snow – not expected to stick around long

The winter of 2016-17 is likely to be remembered for its persistent snow and staying with that theme many Ferndale areas above sea level received an inch or more of snow accumulation during the early morning hours today.

The National Weather Service Seattle office issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Whatcom and Skagit Counties in effect until 10am today. The advisory forewarned of up to 2 inches of wet snow during the morning.

What little precipitation is expected to follow this morning’s snowfall will likely change from snow to rain by the afternoon.

As of 5am, temperatures in the Ferndale area were between freezing and two degrees above freezing with a breeze from the north. Lower elevation roads were bare and wet while higher elevations saw slushy roads.
