Ferndale Police say they were notified by Seattle Children’s Hospital on January 12th a 6-month old patient was there with injuries not from accidental trauma.
Yesterday, after further investigation, Ferndale Police arrested Evaristo Mendez, age 25, and booked him into the Whatcom County Jail for 1st degree assault of a child.
According to City of Ferndale spokesperson, Riley Sweeney, Mendez admitted to getting frustrated when his child would get fussy and would not eat. While the child was in a “Rock ‘n Play” for infants, Mendez pushed it aggressively causing the child’s head to strike a hard plastic part.
It was determined the original injury happened on December 31st in the 2300 block of Douglas Road.

Mendez remained in custody as of 2pm today according to Whatcom Jail records.
