“Pop-up” blood donor center returns to Ferndale

FERNDALE, Wash. — Donating blood is considered an essential activity and, as such, blood donors are exempt from Washington State’s “Stay home, Stay healthy” order. Donations are critical to maintain a stable blood supply for surgeries, medical emergencies, and for supporting patients battling life-threatening illnesses like leukemia and other cancers, according to Bloodworks Northwest officials.

To help meet demand, a “pop-up” donation site will be set up in the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center on Thursday, September 17th and Friday, September 18th.

A pop-up donor center was set up at the Community Center in June that resulted in 82 donors fulfilling the needs of as many as 228 patients according to Bloodworks Northwest officials.

The one-hour donations at the pop-up donor center are by appointment only. The pop-up centers are being conducted in accordance with physical distancing guidelines. No walk-ins, guests or people under age 16 will be permitted onsite.
