WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko reported the 3 occupants of the pickup truck were treated and released at the scene. Both vehicles had significant front end damage.

A Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy at the scene said the driver of the pickup truck would be cited for crossing the fog line. There was no indication whether the semi truck owner would be cited for parking illegally.

  1. Charge the Truck’s owner !! Start ticketing & towing all these big rigs.
This illegal truck parking, on Portal Way, needs to come to a stop ! It’s OUT of Control !
Who needs to die, before something is done ??
It’s very obvious the truck’s drivers don’t care ! NOR apparently, do the Ferndale Police either !!

  2. i phoned the Ferndale Police Department on Friday, April 12th to report the hazard the truck presented to drivers on Portal Way. The truck was parked on the wrong side of the road, in addition, there were a total of 4 semi trucks parked within a half mile stretch of Portal Way. The Ferndale Fire Department was also conducting a fire training just a half mile north of the trucks. The road was dangerous and chaotic. I am frustrated that the police didn’t respond to my phone call regarding the illegally parked truck involved in the accident. I told the 911 dispatcher that someone was going to get hurt or possibly killed due to these trucks. The picture does not show that this truck was only 13 inches from the fog line. I measured the distance to report it to dispatch.

  3. You think it was bad on Friday you should have tried to drive Portal Way on Saturday. Carl’s, The Farm and Garden, and Kulshan Vet were all having an annual community spring celebration. Those trucks were a hazard and in the way. You couldn’t see around them, they narrowed the roadway, they’re making mud pits of the shoulders, and they’re ugly. Why aren’t the drivers cited for illegal parking? This has been going on for a while and it’s more than annoying.
