RECALLS: kratom supplements, light bulbs

NutriZone, LLC of Houston, Texas is the latest US company impacted by concerns over salmonella with kratom products. NutriZone is recalling 4 different kratom dietary supplements because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Other companies have already recalled kratom products because they tested positive for Salmonella.

The dietary supplements are labeled and packaged as follows:

The products were sold in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Washington, Missouri, Florida, Mississippi, California and Texas.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued previous warnings regarding kratom – a plant that grows in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Its structure is similar, according to the FDA, “with controlled opioid analgesics, such as morphine derivatives, thus making kratom-containing products opioids.” “The agency has also been assessing peer-reviewed research and a growing number of adverse event reports associated with kratom use, including 44 reported deaths,” the FDA said in a February announcement.

Another recall involves 2.5 million GTC brand halogen light bulbs purchased from H-E-B. They were sold in packages of 2 or 4 bulbs. The company say they have received 14 reports of the light bulbs shattering while in a lamp or light fixture. One consumer had a cut on his hand and another had a burn to his hand and cuts on his foot.

The bulbs were sold at H-E-B stores in Texas and online at http://www.heb.com. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled halogen light bulbs and return them to H-E-B for a full refund.
