The corkscrew off-ramp for northbound I-5 at Main Street has been the scene of a few single-vehicle crashes where the vehicles have left the road and ended up in some bushes down a slope from the roadway. But, during the month of December 2018, it was the scene of 3 crashes plus a rollover crash on January 1st.
According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Heather Axtman, WSP troopers were dispatched to a total of 6 other crashes at that location during 2018 year, an average of about 1 crash every 2 months, before the flurry of 4 crashes.
Axtman said 1 of the 4 crashes resulted in an arrest for driving under the influence and the other 3 were determined to be the result of speeds too fast for conditions. No one required treatment for their injuries as a result of any of the 4 crashes.
Washington State Department of Transportation spokesperson Andrea Petrich said they had made some signage improvements at that location over the summer.
Petrich added, “This time of year, especially on ramps, bridges and shaded areas, drivers want to make sure they’re driving for conditions.”
