Reception Thursday to honor retiring Fire Captain Vic Pankratz

An open house will be held at Firehouse #41, at 2020 Washington Street, Thursday, March 28th, from 1pm to 3pm to honor retiring Captain Vic Pankratz.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman said Pankratz was one of the first fire district employees. Pankratz began serving as a volunteer firefighter in 1975 and was later hired in 1987 as Maintenance Captain while continuing as an active firefighter.

Hoffman credited Pankratz with actively supporting training efforts and taking over the district’s REHAB support division all while taking care of the district’s equipment and property needs which includes 26 vehicles and 6 fire stations.

“Vic had a hand in the design of most our current vehicles,” Hoffman said. “He had a construction background but most of all he has done for us has been self-taught.”
