FERNDALE, Wash. — Effective immediately, all outdoor fires within the Ferndale city limits are prohibited until further notice, including recreational fires.
City of Ferndale made the announcement this afternoon following yesterday’s announcement by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office to add recreational fires to the temporarily county-wide burn ban already in effect.
The City of Ferndale has a permanent burn ban on all outdoor fires except for recreation fires. As a result of today’s announcement, recreational fires including wood burning fire pits or similar enclosures are not permitted.
Effective immediately, the City of Ferndale is following the recommendation of Whatcom County Fire District #7. This has been deemed a necessary safety precaution due to continued high temperatures and dry vegetation within the city.City of Ferndale announcement (September 10, 2020)
As with the county burn ban, propane fire pits without solid wood burning material will still be allowed within the city limits, along with propane and charcoal BBQs.
