Traffic on Mountain View was reduced to a single lane to allow emergency equipment to access the scene.

Additional details will be added to this story if available after WCFD7 crews have completed their work.

Update
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said no one was home when the fire broke out this afternoon. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was visible out of at least one window.

Boyko said the owners’ son, who also is a resident of the home, arrived, broke out a window and successfully rescued the family’s cats.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it appeared to have originated in a bedroom according to Boyko.
