FERNDALE, Wash. — A Whatcom County Public Works road striping crew contracted by the City of Ferndale got a big surprise today when they found themselves working in a sudden and unforeseen rain.
According to City of Ferndale Public Works staff, painting stopped as soon as the rain began falling since they are using an environmentally-friendly water-based paint.
Due to the wet road surface, no further striping today is expected to occur. Stripes laid on Main Street, Douglas Road, Hendrickson Avenue and Ferndale Road are expected to be repainted at a later date.
As a result of the rainfall, some uncured paint made its way into street gutters and City Public Works crews were out doing clean-up in those locations.
It was planned for the striping to be conducted throughout Ferndale today and tomorrow, August 23rd and 24th. It is unknown if the weather will stay dry enough tomorrow so that the second day of striping can occur. Striping not able to be accomplished will be rescheduled according to officials.
