Traffic on I-5 southbound was reduced to one lane after a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred just before 7pm today on southbound I-5 just north of the Grandview interchange.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded and, according to Division Chief Ben Boyko, the driver needed to be extricated from the vehicle by cutting off the roof. The only passenger was able to get out of the vehicle on their own. Three dogs were also in the vehicle and all were accounted for at the scene.
The driver was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center “purely as a precautionary measure,” Boyko said.
Washington State Patrol Sergeant Mark Francis said the driver lost control as a result of a blown tire.
American Red Cross staff were contacted to assist the passenger and dogs.
