FERNDALE, Wash. — The Ferndale School District announced students can expect to see a greater emphasis on scratch cooking and fresh, local ingredients as a result of a decision to begin providing school food services in-house.
For the past 30 years, Sodexo has been contracted by the district to provide school meals for students and staff. That ended this summer as the district implements their decision to bring the food service program in-house beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
According to a recent announcement from the district, this is “a change that will save the District money and give more control over service and quality.”
Ferndale School District Director of Accounting Holly Graham will manage the Food Service Department in addition to her existing duties. According to the district announcement, “Graham says that the District is fortunate to have great food service staff in place, which will help ensure a smooth transition.”
Long-time district employee Yvonne Green has been appointed to head Food Service Operations as part of the change.
Another change is families will begin using Skyward instead of the MealTime program to pay for meals starting in the fall. Skyward is a secure system families use to access real-time student information online such as schedules, attendance, discipline, grades and history.
