While many are making the best of the recent weather-related school closures, school district officials are making plans for how to make those days up.
Washington State law requires 1,027 instructional hours (~180 days) per year so when schools close due to weather, those days need to be made up.
According to Ferndale School District officials, the plan is to hold make up days the week of June 19th, after the previously scheduled last day of school. As of this article, 3 4 days need to be made up. But if, by the end of the year, more than 5 days need to be made up, “the district will need to determine how those days would be made up in order to meet state requirements.”
This article has been updated to reflect 4 days are need to be made up at this time, not 3. We regret the error.
