traffic hates meThis may come as a relief to hear that it wasn’t just you getting picked on while driving down Slater Road. The signal at Rural Ave may have seemed to be deciding on its own when to let traffic through or just would turn red when it saw you coming.

It reality, it appears a faulty sensor is to blame.

According to a message from Ferndale City staff,

“A sensor failure in the signal at Slater Road and Rural Avenue has caused delays in the traffic light switching appropriately. The City of Bellingham, which we contract with to manage our traffic signals, is working on the issue. There is no specific estimate as to when this will be repaired. Parts may need to be ordered.”

    • According the information provided, it was operating normally (e.g. typical delays between green to yellow to red light changes). It just would cycle at inappropriate times. Annoying to be sure but still able to be obeyed as usual.
