FERNDALE, Wash. — Forecast high winds were a no-show overnight but are probable to occur for a short time around noon today, January 10th, according to computer forecast models. Southwesterly gusts are expected to reach closer to 40mph than the high wind warning’s estimate of 60mph.

We have received reports of snow and rain mix to the north and south of the Ferndale area. Travel on I-5 north of Ferndale appears to have been impacted as travel times are longer than normal (reduced speed) this morning.

A reader reported encountering snow accumulation on I-5 just north of Bellingham about 4:30am today. The roadway transitioned to bare and wet by the time they reached Skagit County.

WSDOT traffic cameras show bare and wet roads south of Grandview Road and through Bellingham by 7:30am.

National Weather Service forecasters in Seattle said this morning,

A strong front will move through Western Washington today. The low pressure system associated with the front will move ashore Saturday. Another vigorous weather system will reach the area on Sunday as cold Fraser outflow begins. A modified arctic front will move south through Western Washington Sunday evening.

Readers are advised to frequently monitor the updated Ferndale area weather forecast based on the accurate European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) computer forecast model.
