UPDATED: Structure Fire at Alcoa Intalco Works

Firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire at Alcoa Intalco Works plant on Mountain View Road tonight around 8:15pm tonight, June 30th. Initial reports were that it involved an area described as the “bake ovens.”

No injuries were reported.

Update 7/2/15
Alcoa Intalco Works provided the following information:

On June 30, 2015, at approximately 8:00 p.m. a fire occurred within the duct work of an auxiliary structure at Alcoa Intalco Works. The fire was quickly contained and there were no injuries and no significant damage. Mutual aid from Whatcom Fire District 7 was called upon to assist plant emergency personnel. Normal operations have resumed.

Intalco is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause. The fire was located inside the duct work leading to the sonic tower, which is part of the emissions treatment center. All safety and fire suppression systems operated correctly during this incident resulting in no injuries or significant damage.
