Premier Ferndale recreation destination, Tennant Lake, was the focus of a project recently announced as completed by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife in a weekly activity report. Much of the boardwalk received a fresh layer of wood fastened on top of the existing structure. This included raising up lower sections enabling use during times of high water, such as what we are having now, and will serve to extend its life expectancy.

It was no easy project as workers had to endure “some difficult times with high water, slippery boards, and even swarms of mosquitos,” according to the report.

The Tennant Lake boardwalk enables visitors to wander into areas surrounding the lake providing a unique perspective on the sights and sounds of the lush swamp and marsh usually available only for birds and amphibians.

Below you can see the results of the project and the beauty of the rest of the park.
