The 122nd Old Settlers Picnic will be held this weekend. This annual event is filled with parades, food, music and things to do for all ages. Whether you are attending any of these, or need to drive through town, here is what to plan for.
The Old Settlers Junior Parade starts at 6pm and will begin on 4th Avenue and proceed down Alder Street and then down 2nd Avenue to Cherry Street. These roads will be closed at that time. Participants will begin lining up on 4th Avenue and Alder Street at 4:45pm requiring an earlier closure of that segment of the route.
The Old Settlers Grand Parade starts at 11am and returns to its regular route this year (Washington Street construction forced a slight change last year). This means during the parade, Main Street will be closed west of Hovander Road and east of 4th Avenue and Washington Street will be closed west of the railroad tracks and east of Vista Drive (see map below).
The parade route begins Golden Eagle Drive (by FHS) and goes left onto Washington Street and then right onto 3rd Avenue. The route then goes left onto Main Street and right onto 1st Avenue. The route then ends at Cherry St (Pioneer Park).
Most parade participants will then follow a return route back to the FHS parking lot via 2nd Avenue to Alder Street, Alder to 4th Avenue, 4th to Vista Drive and on to the high school parking lot.
