Slater Road has remained closed since early this morning due to river flooding and as a result, alternate routes have become backed up. Traffic exiting onto Main Street from northbound I-5 has been backing up onto the mainline beyond the offramp.

Drivers have reported it taking up to an hour to traverse the detour route around the Slater Road closure via Main Street in Ferndale.

Main Street is handling the traffic that would not only be using Slater Road but also Marine Drive, which was closed yesterday also due to river flooding.

No information regarding when the Slater Road may be reopened has been made available by Whatcom County Public Works, so it may remain closed into the evening commute time.

Drivers heading to west Ferndale locations can use Grandview Road to Kickerville Road as a means to avoid much of the logjam. Otherwise, drivers should expect and plan for delays.

Monitor the current road closures and traffic conditions on the MFN Traffic Page.
