About 9:30am this morning, Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division announced they had taken the Lummi Island ferry, Whatcom Chief, out of service.
An issue with one of the Whatcom Chief’s main engines was the reason for the service interruption between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point.
Officials say mechanics were enroute and ferry service would be unavailable until further notice.
Ferry officials say mechanics are on scene and focusing their attention on the fuel delivery system on the main engine.
Ferry officials say repairs have been completed and ferry service restored.
