The Ferndale area awoke to several more inches of fresh snow Tuesday, February 12th.

City and county crews continued worked overnight plowing, sanding and keeping priority routes clear as the new snow arrived overnight and continued falling during the morning commute.

Less-traveled roads were reported to be challenging to travel on with snowdrifts from yesterday combined with new overnight snow. Based on local traffic cameras, roads to the south have more compact snow on them than was seen yesterday.

Ferndale School District officials announced last night that classes at all schools would be canceled today. Several other businesses and agencies also announced closures or delayed openings as a result of the weather.

No “Flex” stops or Zone service today though. 1 exception, after a bus got stuck on the west end of Marine Drive, Route 50 on Marine Drive was being detoured via Ferndale Road/Slater Road/Haxton Way/Lummi Shore Rd. No stops will be missed according to WTA officials.

National Weather Service forecasters have downgraded the Winter Storm Warning to a Winter Weather Advisory through noon today. The statement warns of additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, less than originally expected.

Areas south of Snohomish County began seeing rain instead of snow last night as warmer temperatures moved into southern Puget Sound. But cold air over northern Puget Sound is expected to remain cold today keeping the precipitation type as snow.
