FERNDALE, Wash. — Previous Nooksack River level forecasts were cause for concern as they held potential for significant road impacts over several days. But this morning’s update is far less dreadful.
The forecast as of 7am this morning, January 1st, says to expect the river to crest this afternoon short of the 14-foot mark and again Saturday evening around 14.75 feet. These crest levels are below the previous expectations of cresting past the 17.5-foot mark today and beyond the 15-foot mark Saturday.
The National Weather Service Flood Watch set to expire at 4pm today has been lifted.
While concern for significant road impacts is lessened by this updated forecast, drivers should continue to remain alert to the risk of flood water and debris on low-lying roads near the river and creeks.
