Volunteers needed to help Resource Center expand hours

One of the services available under the Ferndale Community Services Cooperative umbrella is the Ferndale Community Resource Center. It provides several services and resources for Ferndale area people and families in need. But it currently is suffering from limited operating hours. Officials want to change that and are asking the community’s assistance in the form of volunteers.

Current hours are 9:30am to 12:30pm every Tuesday through Friday. According to Ferndale Community Service Cooperative Coordinator Terri Temple, they would like to be able to open afternoons and Saturdays. “People who work (8am-5pm) or folks who can’t leave the house due to child care can’t avail themselves of our services,” Temple explained via email.

Temple said they are concerned their current hours are most restrictive on the low-income working population.

  • job search resources
    • center computers
    • job listings
    • one-on-one resume and cover letter assistance is available by appointment
    • interview-appropriate clothing is available along with tips for successful interviewing

Temple says they are needing people who can volunteer at least 4 hours once a week. They can expect to answer the phone and greet people at the reception desk as well as

  • assist with finding sizes for the clothing bank
  • accept donations
  • relay messages with staff
  • monitor use of the computer in the Jobs Room
  • provide a smile and a kind word
