UPDATED: Weather causes Lummi Island ferry to suspend service

Officials announced service has resumed.

Weather is blamed for temporarily stopping passenger-only ferry service between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point officials announced shortly after 2pm this afternoon.

Not specific estimate for resuming service was given. Officials say service will resume when safe to do so.

Weather stations located around the Hale Passage report wind gusts reaching about 40mph since 1pm.

A small craft advisory until 11pm is in place today for northern inland waters of Puget Sound. Southeast winds of 15 to 25 knots and waves of 2 to 4 feet are forecast.

The Whatcom Chief vehicle ferry is currently out of service during its weeks-long annual maintenance in dry dock which began earlier this month. During the interim, the passenger-only ferry is taking its place.
