Weather Service issues heat advisory for Sunday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office has issued a heat advisory from 7am Sunday, August 16th, to 2am Monday for both western Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

According to NWS, afternoon high temperatures around 90° are expected, especially in areas away from the water.

Hot weather increases the potential for dehydration and heat related illnesses. NWS advises the elderly, the young and those who work or exercise outdoors will be the most vulnerable to heat related illnesses if extra precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions suggested by NWS include drinking plenty of fluids, seeking air conditioned places and checking on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
