FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police booked a Whatcom County man into the Whatcom County Jail this morning about 4am and charged him with suspicion of robbery in the 1st degree, rape in the 2nd degree and unlawful imprisonment after a woman staying in a Ferndale hotel room reported having been held against her will.
According to information provided by City of Ferndale Communications Officer Riley Sweeney via email, the suspect was identified as Dennis J Jardinski, age 30.
Sweeney said probable cause for Jardinski’s arrest was based on a report Ferndale Police received from a 29-year-old woman. According to the report, he prevented her from leaving the hotel room where she was staying, physically assaulted her, took money from her by force and sexually assaulted her.
The woman told police the incident occurred at the Super 8 hotel, located at 5788 Barrett Road, on Tuesday, November 12th. Sweeney said it was reported to the Ferndale Police later that same day. Dennis Jardinski was known to the woman and he had been allowed into the room according to Sweeney.
Jardinski was taken into custody at his Whatcom County residence with assistance from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office according to Sweeney. The case was still open and still being investigated.
According to court records, Jardinski has an long criminal history in Whatcom County courts since 2004 as a juvenile and since 2007 as an adult that includes several gross misdemeanors as well as felony crimes of possession of stolen property, assault and robbery. As of 1pm, Jardinski remained in custody and was scheduled to attend a preliminary appearance hearing this afternoon, November 14th, in Whatcom County Superior Court.
