Whatcom Master Gardeners plant sale continues at Hovander Homestead Park

FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Master Gardener Marilyn Johnson says an on-going plant sale at Hovander Homestead Park is the group’s response to not being able to have their annual Mothers’ Day plant sale.

The annual Mothers’ Day sale is a large event with all plants offered for sale on just one day. But this year, due to health safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic the event was canceled.

Beginning May 29th, sale tables have been set up by the small sheds in the Master Gardeners’ Demonstration Gardens in Hovander Homestead Park.

Plants for sale are available daily during the park hours of 9am to 7pm.

Johnson said, “We keep offering different plants for sale so there are always new plants to choose from.” Most recently available are daylilies, spireas, hardy geraniums, shade plants and many others.

Plants for sale are labeled with suggested prices. Buyers purchase the plants by putting cash or checks into the marked box on the garden shed.

Plant sale proceeds support the groups’ community outreach including demonstration gardens, diagnostic plant clinics, free learning lectures and training new master gardeners for on-going community service.
