Will the flooding impact your evening commute? Find out here

Some roads were closed earlier today as a result of the rising Nooksack River. Many have been watching for water to begin encroaching onto Slater Road all day as the expectation of a subsequent road closure weighed heavy given the forecast of the river level exceeding 18-feet.

Earlier today, the following Ferndale area roads were closed due to water over the roadway:

  • Barrett/Paradise Roads
  • Marine Drive between Rural Avenue and Lummi Shore Road/Drive
  • Ferndale Road between Slater Road and Marine Drive

As for Slater Road, it remained open and dry as of 4pm.

Whatcom County Public Works crews have preemptively set up their large electronic signs in the event rising river water forces closing Slater Road. The Nooksack River is expected to continue rising until about midnight, cresting at about 18.2 feet.
