Ferndale beat New England regional champions, Washington Park from Rhode Island, 11 to 7 in the 2017 Cal Ripken World Series semi final game.
Dylan Strom was the starting and winning pitcher against Washington Park. Landen Hatchett, Isaiah Carlson, and Andrew James all pitched in relief.
Offensively, Ferndale had a total of 13 hits. Isaiah Carlson and Dylan Strom both hit homeruns. Bringing Ferndale’s total homerun count so far for the World Series to 17.
Ferndale will play in the World Series championship game tomorrow, Thursday, at 7:30 PM ET (4:30pm PT). Ferndale will play Middle Atlantic region champion, Cedar Cliff.
The Ferndale 12U Cal Ripken team made it into the Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series in Clemmons, North Carolina, after earning championships in recent State and Regional tournaments.
While the Whatcom Americans 12U team, with 8 Ferndale players on the roster, made it 2 years ago and were eliminated in a quarterfinal game, no other Ferndale team has ever made it to the Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series.
Ferndale made it into the semi final World Series game after beating the Ohio Valley regional champions, Crownpoint, Indiana, 12 to 2 in the quarterfinals. In World Series pool play, Ferndale beat Clemmons, North Carolina, the Southeast region champion, 10 to 4, yesterday and beat the Midwest plains region, Galena Kansas, 15 to 1 in the third pool play game Sunday. Last week, they came back beat Southwest region champion, Clark County Arkansas, 15 to 0, after a 7 to 1 loss against Middle Atlantic region champion, Cedar Cliff. Their 3 and 1 record in pool play gained them a second seed in the Americans pool going into the championship bracket.
