FERNDALE, Wash. — The National Weather Service Seattle office issued a Wind Advisory today about 1:20pm that will be in place until midnight tonight.

According to the alert, sustained west to northwest winds of 25 to 35mph with gusts to 50mph are expected in western Whatcom County. Strongest winds are expected near the coast.

With winds this strong, power outages resulting from downed trees and tree limbs are a possibility.

Winds are the result of a strong cold front passing across northern Vancouver Island and inland today. Winds were expected to change from southerly to westerly as the front moved inland with an increase in wind strength expected after the change in direction.
