FERNDALE, Wash. — Neighbors near Douglas Road found themselves without power this morning, October 13th, about 8:30am as powerful winds began pummeling western Washington.
Since then, according to Puget Sound Energy, as of 1pm, about 350 Ferndale area customers were without power, along with 14,000 in Whatcom County and over 44,000 throughout the Puget Sound region.
Winds have been reported to have reached gusts up to 50mph in the Ferndale area today about 11:30am.
In addition to the strong winds, heavy rains brought about a half-inch of precipitation to the Ferndale area this morning.
Whatcom County Emergency Management Deputy Director John Gargett said in a presentation this morning that the weather services were in agreement the strongest winds were to arrive about 2pm this afternoon.
The National Weather Service Seattle office has issued a wind advisory warning of southwest sustained winds if 20 to 35mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The advisory will remain in effect until midnight tonight.
