WSP seeks info/witnesses in fatal hit-and-run on I-5 in Bellingham

Washington State Patrol (WSP) are asking the public’s assistance after a 17-year-old Bellingham youth was killed while walking on I-5 about midnight last night.

According to the WSP, at approximately 12:28am this morning, March 19th, they were dispatched to a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian. The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of I-5 at the Guide-Meridian interchange in Bellingham.

Preliminary investigation by the WSP showed the pedestrian was walking in the lane on the freeway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle and killed. The victim was identified as Butch J. Mullins, age 17, of Bellingham.

WSP is seeking additional witnesses that may have information surrounding this collision. Anyone who saw the pedestrian on the freeway or possibly know of any vehicles with unexplainable damage are urged to contact Detective Kevin Nelson by calling (360) 654-1143 or by email to kevin.nelson@wsp.wa.gov.
