FERNDALE, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is asking for witnesses with information about the events leading up to a hit-and-run collision between a car and a 68-year-old Marysville woman in the southbound I-5 Custer rest area parking lot that left the woman in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 4th, about 3:30pm when the woman was struck by a red or orange 4-door passenger car that witnesses described as possibly a Chrysler 300 or a Dodge Charger. After striking the woman, the suspect vehicle fled southbound on I-5.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said medics transported the woman to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in critical condition.

WSP detectives say they are examining all aspects of what led to this collision and are seeking additional witnesses to not only the collision but also the events immediately before or after the collision and the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle.
