Basing the decision on what is best for the children and supporting of their educational needs, implementing a more “balanced” calendar starting with the 2015-2016 school year is the intention of Whatcom Day Academy. The biggest difference in the calendar is that summer break goes from 49 to 27 weekdays.
In use, the first day of school during the new calendar would be during the first week in September and the last day would be during the last week in July. Another notable difference is that there are only two half-days compared with 38 during a current public school calendar.
More details and the rationale behind the new calendar are available on the Whatcom Day Academy’s balance calendar page.
Located just south of Windward High School on Northwest Drive, Whatcom Day Academy is an accredited K-12 school offering classes to children ages 3 to 11.
