FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to I-5 south of the Portal Way interchange due to a report of a rollover crash about 3:45pm today, February 15th.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was southbound on I-5 when it drifted onto the left shoulder, hit slush, returned onto the roadway and then overcorrected back to the left causing it to leave roadway and roll. The SUV ended up on its top against the median cable barrier.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the driver was able to get out of the SUV on their own and a passenger was assisted out by bystanders. A WCFD7 aid crew transported 1 person to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Oliphant said the driver was issued a citation for driving with wheels off roadway.
