FERNDALE, Wash. — Only a couple hours after a series of crashes occurred on I-5 that was reported to have involved upwards of 9 vehicles, a pickup and a SUV crashed on Pioneer Bridge blocking both lanes of Main Street. First responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash near the west end of the bridge about 6:55pm, January 8th.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said those with injuries were able to be treated and released at the scene.

Ferndale Police worked with tow truck operators to quickly clear the crash scene in order to reopen both lanes since Main Street was serving as the detour route while Slater Road and Marine Drive were closed due to flooding.

Ferndale Police were still investigating at the time this story was written.
